What word describes you today?
I was reading through my Twitter feed this morning, and noticed a lady who had posted a picture of herself on her first day at a new job. She looked stunning – but the first words in her tweet were “I know I look haggard”. Her hair was neatly in place. She looked awake and alive. Her make up looked great. And yet haggard was the word she used to describe herself.
It’s standards like this – which we often set ourselves – which make us nervous to leave the house without make up. We believe that in order to leave the house we have to look perfect. But the reality is none of us is. It’s how you feel inside that counts. And how you talk to yourself directly affects the way you feel.
Spend some time this week thinking about how you’re talking to yourself and whether or not you’d say it to a friend. I can’t imagine the Twitter lady would ever have described a friend as haggard, especially looking as great as she did. Think about the standards you’re setting yourself and where these come from. And most of all, be kind to yourself.
