How do you feel about forgiveness?
It’s a word – like acceptance – thrown about, often alongside a cliché or two, about how we should learn to let go.
But, in reality, it’s not that easy is it?
When we talk about letting go, it feels like we’re excusing someone for what they did, when what they didn’t was inexcusable.
It can leave us frustrated.
And this can apply to forgiving ourselves too.
So this is what you could do: try putting yourself at the centre of your life for a while. Think about what you need to positively find your way forward into the life you want to live. Take time to understand how your experiences have shaped you – even on the days when those experiences seem unfair – and then celebrate the wonderful person you are, despite the pain they may have caused. Pick your battles. And, whatever you do, don’t let someone live rent-free in your head. Move them out, by creating space for you.
